Our final day together was filled with lots of amazing activities! Campers started their day by "time traveling" to camp for our FREAKY FRIDAY exhibition! Campers came to camp dressed as a person from another time period. Magic Tree House spent the morning at the creek, catching crayfish and having fun splashing in the water. In the afternoon, campers had a chance to play in the sprinklers, make magician hats, and enjoy banana splits! Thanks for a fantastic summer!
Tuesday, August 5 -- Let's Go to Coney Island!
Magic Tree House Campers were all around campus today! They started their day by "magically transporting" to the creek where they made crayfish disappear (just kidding... tehe). Campers were impressed with how many they could catch! After lunch, campers spent some time on the playground, but some ominous clouds sent us back to the lodge early. Rain in the afternoon, kept us inside for a bit, but we were still able to have a Water Balloon Toss, play Water Balloon Parachute, and have an "Over/Under" Relay Race! To end the day, Magic Tree House Campers hiked to the tree house to read about Jack and Annie's adventures at Coney Island and they made magic wands!
Monday, August 4 -- Hurry Up, Houdini
Welcome back, Magic Tree House Campers! This week will be full of magical activities and fun information about Harry Houdini! Campers started their day by giving themselves Magician names and creating their magic persona. They also travelled to the tree house to begin reading Mary Pope Osbourne's, Hurry Up Houdini. In the afternoon, campers went swimming at the JCCs outdoor pool! It was a beautiful day to spend some time cooling off in their awesome pool.
Friday, August 1 -- Sounds of Music
Attention all Rock Stars - Camp Talent Show TODAY! Campers came to camp dressed as their favorite musician, musical artist, or with their favorite musical instrument. Some even chose to participate in a Camp Concert, while others opted to be part of our cheerful audience. After our camp concert, we held our weekly FREAKY FRIDAY exhibition and after counting participation, we revealed that DARING CAMP was the winner of this week's FREAKY FRIDAY extravaganza and they got to choose our end of week activity! They decided that they wanted to have a camp-wide scavenger hunt, with candy kabobs as the prize! Campers collected a different type of candy at each scavenger hunt location and at the very end got to put together a candy kabob to take home! Yum!
Magic Tree House and Daring Camp travelled to Club Rock in Beachwood to have the total ROCK STAR experience!
Wednesday, July 30 -- Sounds of Music
Magic Tree House campers continued to explore all sorts of musical instruments - from stick tambourines to pan flutes! They also read M is for Music by Kathleen Krull!
Tuesday, July 29 -- Tambourines and Flutes!
Magic Tree House Campers had a very special day, full of musical adventures! Campers made their very own tambourines and clay flutes. After lunch, campers played on the playground and watched a Magic Show by our very own Mrs. Forquer! Campers were AMAZED at her magical abilities. She made objects appear and even made her water bottle talk. Finally, campers spent some time in the Magic Tree House where they read more about Jack and Annie's journey to meet Mozart (when he was just a kid!).
Welcome back Magic Tree House Campers! This week's theme is Moonlight on the Magic Flute - a book in which Jack and Annie meet Mozart! Campers had lots of fun making and listening to music today. In the morning, they made maracas, explored the tree house, and played fun games! In the afternoon, they went swimming at the Beachwood JCC and played a camp-wide game of Musical Chairs!
Friday, July 25 -- Its a Zoo Around Here WINNERS!
Congratulations Magic Tree House Campers, the winner of this week's FREAKY FRIDAY extravaganza! Campers showed up dressed as their favorite animal and because so many people participated, Magic Tree House won the honor of choosing the FREAKY FRIDAY activity to end the camp week! After our FREAKY FRIDAY voting (activity to be announced later!), campers made oceans in jars, complete with sand, shells, and blue water! They also hiked around camp and went to the creek. After lunch, campers enjoyed time on the playground and enjoyed some water play in the sprinklers and on the slip and slide. To end the day, campers made submarines, read the ending to Dolphins at Daybreak, and tie dyed t-shirts (the winning FREAKY FRIDAY activity)! Thanks for a fun week!
Thursday, July 24 -- Magic Tree House/Daring Camp at the Aquarium
It was a chilly day at camp but Magic Tree House campers know how to make the best of a cold day! Campers started their day with a trip to the tree house where they continued reading Dolphins at Daybreak and wrote in their adventure journals. Afterwards, campers made shark hats, which were very ferocious - complete with "razor sharp", white teeth! Campers also had an opportunity to play on the playground and swim at the indoor pool at the Beachwood JCC. Upon return to camp, campers were delighted to see that Adventure Camp's Mr. Allen had started a camp fire and campers got to enjoy s'mores (made by our wonderful Adventure Campers) and play games!
Tuesday, July 22 -- Dolphins, Whales, and Tropical Fish!
Magic Tree House campers had a "whale" of a good time at camp today! They started their day by making tropical fish and playing games. They also travelled to the tree house where they read more about Jack and Annie's adventures. In the afternoon, campers spent time on the playground and played water games like Drip Drip Splash, Water Balloon Hot Potato, and Water Bomb Tag. To end the day, campers added sea life to their coffee filter oceans from yesterday and enjoyed popsicles!
Monday, July 21 -- Dolphins at Daybreak
Welcome back Magic Tree House Campers! This week's theme is Dolphins at Daybreak and we are very excited for our week of ocean-themed adventures! Under the leadership of Ms. Moury, campers spend the morning playing games, making sandpaper starfish and traveling to the Magic Tree House where campers started to read the first few chapters of Dolphins at Daybreak. In the afternoon, campers practiced being dolphins at the swimming pool, designed coffee filter oceans, and played The Magic Talking Water Bottle, a camp favorite!
Friday, July 18 -- "Blown Away" by our Amazing Campers!
We are so sad to see our Magic Tree House campers leave for the weekend. We have had so much fun learning about life on the prairie. To begin the day, campers participated in our FREAKY FRIDAY extravaganza! This week, our themes was "Yeehaw, Cowboy/Cowgirl". We were ver impressed with the variety of costumes that came to camp today. Magic Tree House were the victors of our FREAKY FRIDAY competition and got the opportunity to choose our afternoon activity! In addition to FREAKY FRIDAY, campers finished reading Twister on a Tuesday at the Tree House, weaved in homemade looms, went creek walking, and played in the sprinklers! To end the day, all campers participated in our FREAKY FRIDAY activity - face painting and popsicles! Thanks for a great week!
Thursday, July 17 -- Log Cabin Builders!
Magic Tree House spent more time pretending they lived in the past! Campers reminisced on the log cabin they saw on the field trip, and made their own log cabins using pretzel sticks, crackers, and glue! They also played lots of games, enjoyed some time on the playground, and went to the creek.
Wednesday, July 16 -- Century-Old Fun
Today, campers learned more about what it was life to live in the past. Campers started their day by traveling to the Magic Tree House to read about Jack and Annie's adventures. Upon their return to camp, they made feather pens, dipped their pens in ink, and wrote a message or drew a picture using their new "old fashioned" pen. After enjoying lunch, campers went for a swim at the Beachwood JCC. To end the day, campers decorated the marbles they made yesterday on our field trip!
Tuesday, July 15 -- Century Village
Magic Tree House Campers and Daring Campers travelled to Century Village in Burton, Ohio to learn all about what it may have been like to live in the past! We saw an old cabin, house, store, school, and church. We also got to make marbles. Life certainly was different back then!
Monday, July 14 -- Twister on a Tuesday
Welcome back, Magic Tree House Campers! We have a great week planned for you! Lead by our wonderful staff, campers started the day by playing name games and traveling to the Magic Tree House to read Twister on a Tuesday by Mary Pope Osbourne. While campers were in the time traveling spirit, they made homemade butter by shaking heavy whipping cream! To camper's surprise, it actually worked! After lunch, campers enjoyed a dip in the pool and relaxed with some yoga.
Friday, July 11 -- Thanks for a Great Week!
Daring Camp and Magic Tree House Camp went to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History - We had a guided "Animal Odyssey" tour where we learned animals in Ohio and in Africa. We also explored the museum on our own in the afternoon!
Magic Tree House campers spent the day making Sabertooth Tiger teeth, playing games, swimming, and enjoying the popsicles they made yesterday. What a great day!
Tuesday, July 8 -- Wet and Wild Sabertooths!
It was a wet and wild day at camp today! We had to plan our day around the several storms that rolled in and our of the area. Campers started their day by excavating dinosaurs from ice and playing fun games! After lunch, campers spent some time on the playground, made homemade popsicles to be enjoyed tomorrow and read from Sunset of the Sabertooth! Because of the threat of serious storms, we decided to move some of our activities to the basement of the Butler Center where we mingled with Daring Camp, Adventure Camp, and Championship Soccer Camp! Things are never boring here at Summer at Laurel!
Sabertooths! Grrrr! We are headed back in time here at Magic Tree House Camp, to the time of the ice age! Under the direction of our AMAZING instructors and counselors, we have started reading about Jack and Annie's adventures in Sunset of the Sabertooth. Campers also made "snow slime" and colored and decorated woolly mammoths. In the afternoon, campers swam and played games on the pavilion.
Thursday, July 3 -- Farewell, New Magicians.
After a fun-filled week of inventing, we must say good bye to our "New Magicians" - but, we had a wonderful last day together! Campers started their day with one final invention - designing their dream car. Once completed, campers pulled out all their inventions from the week and had their very own World Fair! Magic Tree House campers loved admiring each other's creations. In the afternoon, campers played on the playground, in the sprinklers, and in the bouncy house. To end the day, Magic Tree House, Daring Camp, and Adventure Camp joined on the field to watch Mr. Rossman explode a watermelon and to play a scavenger hunt that resulted in a delicious popsicle prize! Thanks for a fabulous week!
Wednesday, July 2 -- Magic Tree House Campers or Residential Engineers?
Today at camp, our Magic Tree House campers took on the task of designing their own dream house! Many campers created unique structures that were unlike any house we've ever seen before. Campers also travelled to the Magic Tree House to read more about Jack and Annie's adventures at the Paris World Fair. Afterwards, campers enjoyed lunch and swimming. At the pool Magic Tree House campers enjoyed playing with the counselors and spraying each other with pool noodles! When they returned to camp, they had a counselor vs. camper Dodgeball game!
Our Magic Tree House friends have been BUSY, BUSY BUSY! Campers started their day by building Eiffel Towers out of food (Dots, marshmallows, pretzels, saltines, and frosting) and exploring the creek. After lunch, campers played on the playground, had some wet and wild water play, and built a "rocket ship" to send them to the moon!
Monday, June 30 -- Night of the New Magicians
Welcome back Campers! This week is bound to be full of imagination and creativity. Magic Tree House campers are reading Night of the New Magicians, in which they will learn about 4 different inventors and the World Fair! Campers started the day by traveling to the Magic Tree House to read about Jack and Annie and make String Telephones (aka "Camper Cell Phones"). They also invented their own pet! After lunch, campers went swimming, played games, and enjoyed popsicles for Miss Kara's birthday!
Friday, June 27 -- So Long, Cowboys
What a great end to a great week! Magic Tree House Campers started their day dressed as Superheroes! We were amazed at the creative outfits that came to camp. Some campers even collaborated to wear costumes that went together! Then, campers hiked to the creek and the tree house where they finished reading Ghost Town at Sundown. After lunch, campers played on the playground and in the sprinklers. They also made footprint ponies, wrote letters to themselves, and, for our FREAKY FRIDAY activity, made homemade ice cream! Thanks for a wonderful week =)

Wednesday, June 25 -- Being a Cowboy is GREAT!
Howdy, ya'll! Our Magic Tree House campers spent another day as cowboys and cowgirls. They started their day with a hike to the Magic Tree House where Miss Kaylie read about Jack and Annie's adventures. Jack and Annie have been meeting some very interesting people on their travels! Afterwards, campers played games, enjoyed a "Cowboy Breakfast" of biscuits, and watched a magic show! After lunch, campers went swimming at the JCC.
Tomorrow is our field trip day! If your camper has a BLUE Summer at Laurel t-shirt, please have him/her wear it to camp tomorrow. A t-shirt will be given to new campers in the morning.
Tuesday, June 24 -- Yeehaw!
Mrs. Forquer, Miss Kaylie, and Elena spent the day helping our campers transform into cowboys and cowgirls! They started their day by making cowboy vests and cowboy hats. Each camper put his or her own unique twist on their outfit. Then, campers hiked to the creek where they felt like they were really in the Wild West because there was so much water from last night's storm. After lunch, campers played on the playground and participated in some water games, including a few relay races, a water balloon fight, and "Water Bomb" tag! To end the day, campers read more about Jack and Annie's adventure in the Wild West and they made horseshoes!
Monday, June 23 -- Ghost Town at Sundown
oOooOoooOO... Our Magic Tree House theme seems a bit spooky this week, BUT it is anything but spooky! This week, our Magic Tree House book is going to turn our campers into cowboys and cowgirls! Campers started their day by giving themselves a "Wild West" name and made "Wanted" posters. They then practiced their aim by trying to hit a partner with a water balloon. Campers then finished their morning by learning how to lasso -- unfortunately, their target was a chair and not a real horse! After lunch, campers went swimming and enjoyed popsicles to celebrate a counselor's birthday!
Friday, June 20 -- Good bye, Gorillas.
As our Good Morning, Gorillas week comes to an end, we must say good by to our Magic Tree House Campers. To begin our final day, campers came to camp ready to celebrate FREAKY FRIDAY! Our theme this week was "When I Grow Up". Daring Campers and Magic Tree House Campers made Summer at Laurel history with 100% participation! All campers had the opportunity to vote for our afternoon activity! After out Freaky Friday Extravaganza, Magic Tree House Campers watched a magic performance by our own Mrs. Forquer and hiked to the creek to search for creek critters! After lunch, campers played in the sprinklers, travelled to the Magic Tree House to discover how Jack and Annie made it home, and made Snack Necklaces, our Freaky Friday activity! Thanks for a great week!

Wednesday, June 18 -- Learning to be a Gorilla...Part 2!
If you were to walk through the woods at the Butler Campus you would think we had a herd of Gorillas living here! But its just our Magic Tree House Campers perfecting the art of being a gorilla! Campers started their day by reading more about Jack and Annie and their adventures in the cloud forest. Then, campers hiked to "Nitro Crossing" (one of our low ropes course elements) and practiced swinging like gorillas! In the afternoon, campers cooled off in the JCC pool. When they returned to camp they measured their hands against a real gorilla handprint!
Tuesday, June 17 -- Learning to be a Gorilla...Part 1!
Magic Tree House Campers had a day full of crafts, games, and fun! They started their day by learning about a gorilla that actually paints pictures! They used their fingers to paint (just like the gorilla!) pictures. Then, they experimented with putting a bar of soap in the microwave to to make clouds! To cool down in the afternoon, campers combined with Daring Camp to play water games, like Drip Drip Splash (a water version of Duck Duck Goose) and Water Balloon "Hot Potato". They ended their day by making banana pudding (because gorillas love bananas!) using bananas, vanilla pudding, cool whip, and 'nilla wafers.
Monday, June 16 -- Good Morning, Gorillas!
Under the leadership of Mrs. Forquer, Miss Kara, and Miss Elena, campers began to experience what is it like to be in a cloud forest! Cloud forests are parts of the rainforest that are very foggy. Campers started their day by traveling to the Magic Tree House where they began to read about Jack and Annie's adventures. Afterwards, they made bubble snakes. Campers had fun seeing how long they could make their snakes! In the afternoon, the Magic Tree House campers joined Daring Camp and Adventure Camp to swim at the JCC's indoor pool. They finished their day playing games, including Dodge Ball "Teachers vs. Campers!".
