Adventure Camp

Thursday, August 7/Friday, August 8 -- Goodbye Adventure Campers!

Adventure Camp families, we cannot thank you enough for sharing your adventurous children with us! Check out a few photos of our last days together.

Wednesday, August 6 -- Stand Up Paddle Boarding!

Tuesday, August 5 -- PA, Knots, & Biking!

Adventure campers did it ALL today! In the morning, Adventure Campers split up: some went to Catwalk and challenged themselves up in the trees, while others played another round of Campus-wide Sardines on their bikes! While the rain kept campers inside for part of the afternoon, they took advantage and practiced their knot tying skills - important skills for any belayer. To end the day, campers experienced a new camp treat - Mud Surfing!

Monday, August 4 -- Adventure Camp ROCKS!

Adventure Campers are super excited to be back this week! They spent the day mastering their bike skills, swimming at the Beachwood JCC, and exploring camp in a campus-wide game of Sardines!

Thursday, July 31 -- Giant Ladder, Giant Swing, Catwalk

Tuesday, July 29 -- PA 4 Life!

Adventure Camp had a day full of Project Adventure (PA, for short). Campers got to experience climbing on the elements and belaying for others. Campers challenged themselves on Burma Bridge, Cat Walk, and the Giant Ladder.

Friday, July 25 -- Daring & Adventure Join Forces

Today was a special day for Adventure Camp - All campers were able to take on a leadership role to assist Daring Campers on a special activity. Campers from both camps were put into small groups and given the challenge to create a container (given only select materials) to protect an egg when dropped from the top of the Catwalk! After they were happy with their containers, campers from each group were sent to the top of the Catwalk to test out their containers! After a lunch break, Adventure Campers were then sent around campus to do various challenges, like trying to cross the creek without touching the water! Thanks for a great week, Adventure families!

Thursday, July 24 - Giant Ladder, Giant Swing!

Wednesday, July 23 -- Kayaking and S'mores!

Despite the weather being uncommonly chilly, Adventure Campers never back out of an exciting activity like Kayaking! Almost as soon as they arrived, campers jumped on the bus to take them to Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park where they had a chance to kayak on the lake. After some time in the water and on the beach, campers returned to camp and were surprised when Mr. Allen built a campfire and brought out s'more supplies! Adventure campers were able to spend the afternoon enjoying s'mores, making s'mores for younger campers, and playing games with Magic Tree House and Daring Camp.

Monday, July 21 -- Look Out, Mountain Bikers!

Welcome back Adventure Campers! We hope everyone is excited for a new adventure-filled week! Today, campers practiced their biking skills. They even had an opportunity to bike on some of our wooded trails. In the afternoon, campers cooled off at the JCC Swimming Pool!

Thursday, July 17 -- High in the Sky, Its Adventure Camp!

Walking around campus, you might see girls and boys in the tree tops! Those are our brave Adventure Campers challenging themselves on the Project Adventure Course! Campers had tons of fun working as a team to lift each other on the giant swing, as well as experiencing other high elements. Tomorrow is our field trip to Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park!

Wednesday, July 16 -- Adventure Camp goes Creek Walking!

When rain keeps Adventure Campers from their plans, they find super cool alternatives! Instead of heading to the lake, Campers went to South Chagrin Reservation and went creek walking! Campers had a blast balancing on the rocks, exploring the creek bed, and had fun doing something unique with new friends.

Adventure Camp's kayaking trip has been rescheduled for Friday!

Tuesday, July 15 -- Adventure Course FUN!

Adventure Campers had a day full of challenging themselves - both on and off the Adventure Course. Campers spent time climbing the high elements, but also spent time belaying their friends on the high elements! Campers experiences Cat Walk, Burma Bridge, the Giant Ladder, and Pamper Pole!

Tuesday, July 8 -- Wet and Wild Adventure Campers

It was a wet and wild day at camp today! We had to plan our day around the several storms that rolled in and our of the area. Campers started their day on the Project Adventure Course - They practiced belaying each other and challenged themselves on the Cat Walk and Burma Bridge. After lunch, campers spent some time on the playground, and played a special "camp version" of Hide and Seek! Because of the threat of serious storms, we decided to move some of our activities to the basement of the Butler Center where we mingled with Magic Tree House Camp, Daring Camp, and Championship Soccer Camp! Things are never boring here at Summer at Laurel!

Thursday, July 3 -- Farewell, Adventure Campers!

Adventure Campers have had a crazy, cool week! Today, Campers went on a bike ride and had opportunities to experience some of the high rope elements on the Project Adventure Course - Giant Swing, Pamper Pole, Berma Bridge, and Catwalk.  To end the day, Magic Tree House, Daring Camp, and Adventure Camp joined on the field to watch Mr. Rossman explode a watermelon and enjoy popsicles! Thanks for a fabulous week!

Tuesday, July 1 -- Adventure Campers Explore Butler

You could find Adventure Campers everywhere you looked on the Butler Campus today! Campers started their day with a campus-wide scavenger hunt! After lunch, campers enjoyed some wet and wild water play and some time on the Project Adventure Course!

Friday, June 27-- Triple Threats - Bikers, Climbers, and Paddlers.

Our Adventure Campers are officially triple (maybe even quadrupal threats)! This week, they have had experiences biking, climbing, and paddling. How cool! Today, campers started the day by facilitating a game for our Daring Campers (Grades 3-4) and enjoying the Project Adventure Low Elements with their new friends. After lunch, they travelled to Kendall Cliffs where they had the opportunity to climb on their rock wall! Thanks for a great week!

Thursday, June 26 -- A Perfect Day for the Beach!

Wednesday, June 25 --  A New Challenge - Rain.

A little (or a lot) of rain can't keep Adventure Campers down! Unfortunately, campers couldn't go paddling today but they found lots of activities to keep them busy. Campers played Switch, a hand game, Red Handed, and had a scavenger hunt. In the afternoon, campers went swimming! Tomorrow, campers WILL go paddling at Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park! Please send your camper to camp with his/her swimsuit, sunscreen, a towel, and lots of water.

Tuesday, June 24 -- Is there a challenge they cannot beat?!

Our incredible Adventure Campers impress us more and more each day! Today, campers spent a lot of time on the Project Adventure Course! They challenged themselves on Nitro Crossing, the Giant Swing and the Spiderweb! They also played Black Magic and Thread & Needle Tag! Tomorrow, if the weather cooperates, campers will be paddling at Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park! Woohoo!

Monday, June 23 -- Mongo joins Adventure Camp!

Who is Mongo? Mongo is a "gnome" that Mr. Allen won at a recent Laurel School event and he has decided to bring Mongo along for "the ride" this week! Mongo and Campers spent the day riding their bikes and challenging themselves on the Catwalk. In the afternoon, campers went swimming and enjoyed popsicles to celebrate a counselor's birthday!

Thursday, June 19 -- Adventurous Campers and... Adventurous Belayers!

It was a Project Adventure filled day at camp today! Campers got to experience going up on many of the high elements and even got to belay their friends! Campers were able to do: The Giant's Ladder, Burma Bridge, and Pamper Pole.

Wednesday, June 18 -- Adventure Campers "canKNOT" get Enough of KNOTS!

Today, Mr. Allen and Mrs. Dachtler taught Adventure Campers the basics of knot tying and belaying. Campers learned how to tie a figure-8 knot on a bite with rabbit ears and a "retrace 8" ((Test their memory and ask them to show you at home!)). They then tested their balance on the slack line. After lunch, campers joined Magic Tree House and Daring Camp to swim at the JCC!

Tuesday, June 17 -- High in the Sky!

Adventure Campers spent the day challenging themselves on the Project Adventure Course! They spent some time on low elements, like Whale Watch, but then also got to experience Catwalk (walking across a beam many many feet high in the sky) and the Giant Swing (affectionately referred to as The Atomic Wedgie, by our campers).
